System Mechanic (2021) and the SM Pro version are professionally designed, and engineered to work with Windows computers. Including all notebooks, laptops, tablets and of course desktop PCs. The optimization can end the frustration of sluggish programs on your PC. No need to pay high prices for a new computer, or risk buying a used one - System Mechanic optimizes your slow PC in minutes, all while delivering an excellent monitoring system and security protection.

Recommended for.. those who want PC and Internet optimization. System Mechanic Pro will provide slight performance gains while maintaining stability.

System Mechanic: Is it any good? Is it safe?

A full PC optimization suite, System Mechanic is designed to optimize your computer to keep your PC at decent levels.

Iolo System Mechanic

Is System Mechanic any good?
2021 seems to be a breakout year for great optimizer software. A new super-speed optimizer, WC 365 Pro, passed over System Mechanic as the best option. Sad to see, since I used the System mechanic software for so long, but it's just too clunky and bloated at the moment to compete against this year's best PC optimization software.

Is System Mechanic Safe?
System Mechanic passed over 50 online malware scans and has been deemed absolutely safe to use.

At startup, the System Mechanic introduction screen opens and offers info links to help you get started. All the links on the intro page take you to their web site where you can read articles or watch some very in-depth tutorial videos showcasing the many features.

We're going to go through the SM Pro version, which is very similar to the regular version except for Pro's added security features. If your new to the world of optimizer software, I highly recommend you take a few minutes to learn how System Mechanic works before proceeding. If you want to turn off the intro-screen from showing in the future, simply check the box next to 'Don't show this again' in the lower-left and then click 'Skip this screen' to continue.

Quick and Fast Optimization

System

There are two easy options. You can select 'Perform Quick Analysis' which checks your system for the most common problems and takes approximately 1 - 2 minutes. The other option is 'Perform Deep Analysis' to thoroughly check your system for ALL types of problems. This may take a little longer, probably in the neighborhood of 5 - 7 minutes.

Just want to point out that the Analysis Scans do NOT make any changes to your system, you have total control and have the option to optimize or repair each selection individually or simply click the 'Repair All' button to do everything.

You can 'Enable' or 'Disable' an amazing assortment of options including keeping your PC startup optimized, your registry cleaned and defragged, your Internet will be continually optimized, as well as your RAM. It will even backup your registry in the rare case there's any problems.

Also, an excellent 'SafetyNet' function is included that allows you to undo selected repairs and optimizations completely. It keeps track of changes and is easily accessible in the top right corner of the interface.

First, I ran the 'Quick Analysis' just to see the effect. I had 5 problems and they are easily viewed by clicking the 'Problems' tab on the left. Simply click 'Overview' anytime to return. Some very key problems were found, including registry errors, security vulnerabilities, and the following message, 'Your Internet configuration is not optimized'.

Next, I used the 'Perform Deep Analysis' option. It did take a lot longer, but there's a cool optimization animation that plays to keep you entertained. For a few seconds anyway's, now is the time to do some other work or grab a coffee while you're waiting for the optimization analysis to complete. Among many other things, the deep analysis found over 200 registry problems, 11 security problems, over 70 MB of absolutely useless system clutter, and once again alerted me my Internet was not yet optimized.

There's also a Redundant Program Check that scans for unnecessary software installations, and a driver update check that is nicely integrated within the program.

I preferred to open the 'Problems' tab and click on each button to select the appropriate action for each task. You will do just as well clicking the repair-all button, but I just wanted to proceed cautiously because that's the way I always approach it, plus I learn a little more about what exactly is being done.

After the 'Deep Analysis', my system certainly seemed a little faster, BUT there's even more optimization options deeper within System Mechanic, in the 'ToolBox' area, with the 'All-in-one' and the 'Individual' tools. I will detail all of these features in the next section.

The System Mechanic Pro 'Toolbox'

Contains all of the optimization features in one easy to use area. It's wonderfully laid out with various options that are simple to understand. There's a PC TotalCare® button that will perform all diagnostics, repairs, cleanups, and fix security problems with just a single click. Works great and unless you're like me and want to spend hours mulling (or is that drooling) over each optimizer tool, then just press the 'Start PC TotalCare' button to quickly optimize your PC and Internet.

All-in-one Tools

Here's a list of the PowerTools™ and Specialized Tools to quickly optimize, repair, cleanup, and secure your PC. They group together many of the individual tools discussed in the next section to help you easily optimize your computer and Internet.

PC Accelerator - Improves Internet and Windows by optimizing your system drive and your Internet settings. Also defrags the registry and more.

System

PC Repair - Registry repair and help to fix errors, crashes, and system failures.

PC Cleanup - Removes unnecessary cache, unused and temporary files.

Iolo System Mechanic Free Version

PC Security - Helps you to easily fix security vulnerabilities.

Total Registry Revitalizer - 3 step process to clean and trim registry. First, it will backup your registry just to be on the safe side. Then it will safely remove all of the invalid and obsolete registry data. Finally, it will fully optimize your registry by defragging and compacting it.

Individual Tools

There are many tools here, each with their own Start buttons that lead to even more detailed screens. Of course, these may be added to, removed, or change over time, so depending when you're reading this, your new version may differ compared to what is shown here.

SSD Accelerator - If you're lucky enough to have an SSD, it's nice to know this utility can help to maximize your SSD speed by allowing it to execute operations more efficiently.

Drive Medic - Unlike the Windows Hard Disk Error-Checking tool, System Mechanic's Drive Medic doesn't require you to restart to check the disk that your operating system is installed on. That bothered me for years, now I'm free of it. Drive Medic can also help you make a Disaster Recovery CD to help you restore and repair your hard drive if your PC system ever becomes unbootable.

Registry Tuner - A clean and streamlined registry may increase speed and stability - when done right. The crux of much debate online concerns the benefits of cleaning your registry. Well, I say it depends on what program you're using. Sure, if you use a registry cleaner developed 8 years ago and is now dressed up in a shiny new interface - you will run into problems. After what I've seen already from System Mechanic, I trust it will do a fine job on my Windows registry.
You have 2 options, Quick Optimization and Complete optimization. I will try the Quick option first. You have the choice to proceed with the fixes after the scan completes. the Quick scan found 77 problems.Next up, I proceeded with the Complete optimization and it found 215 problems.
If you want to play it safe, you can stick with the Quick optimization, but even if you do the deeper Complete optimization, don't forget that System Mechanic has a great undo function to reverse changes safely back to before you made any changes. After I optimized my registry, I checked and sure enough, waiting in the SafetyNet (Undo) list was an entry to reverse the registry optimization I just performed. However, for the ultimate optimization, we need to compact the registry - next.

Registry Compactor - Shrinking the size of the constantly in-use registry is important to improve access speed. My registry was 5% fragmented and I could improve access speed by 10% through defragmentation. The only caveat is you have to restart your computer since the registry is locked or in use while Windows is running. A small price to pay for more optimization. On restart, a maintenance screen appears displaying the progress of the optimization.

Memory Mechanic® - Defrags your PC RAM. Works effectively, recovered 115 MB on my system and I only had my web page editor running. If you play PC games or use photo-editing software, it will probably recover much more.

Startup Manager - Much more useful than the Windows MSconfig utility. Provides detailed information and recommendations for each startup entry.

Iolo System Mechanic 7

Endnote x9 mac catalina. Advanced Uninstaller - This is a great place to find sub-installations that were left behind by larger programs but do not show up in the Windows uninstall tool.

Designated Drivers Cream cheese for mac and cheese. - Performs a thorough scan of your system's drivers and will recommend driver updates. Also, it create a restore point before installation. Plus, only tested and certified drivers are downloaded for safety reasons.

Iolo

EnergyBooster - Full control of the services on your PC. You can make profiles to run only the necessary services during gaming sessions etc. Better than a batch file solution and so easy to configure in comparison.

CRUDD Remover - Removes useless redundant programs. I never had any redundant programs on my PC, but it's good to have in case something goes wrong when you re-install software and an installation error occurs where you end up with 2 identical installs. If you have ever had this error, you probably know the hassles of trying to remove just one of the installations.

System Mechanic and SM Pro Conclusion:

System Mechanic Pro gives adequate results, far better than the regular version considering it offers excellent security. But it's a fairly bloated piece of software compared to the more modern and better solutions available this year.

I was a happy user of SM for years, but lately there's been issues cropping up. There's many problems documented online as well, including registry issues, and a refund policy that seems to make it difficult to get a full refund.

We'll have to pass on System Mechanic this year. As shown in our latest test results of 35 optimizing programs, we chose the more advanced WC 365 Pro. Maybe the next iteration of System Mechanic will come out swinging and be a modernized version that competes against the slimmer and more effective system optimizers of today.

Editor's Update: Before you buy System Mechanic..
We highly recommend WC 365 Pro over any other optimization program after comparing all PC optimizers in our 2021 analysis of 35 PC tuneup programs.
