Easily organize your secure information, save and fill passwords in your web browser, and have everything available at your fingertips. Before you get started, set up 1Password on. 1Password is a password manager developed by AgileBits Inc. It provides a place for users to store various passwords, software licenses, and other sensitive information in a virtual vault that is locked with a PBKDF2-guarded master password. By default, this encrypted vault is stored on the company's servers for a monthly fee. With 1Password, you can create and fill Privacy Cards everywhere you pay online. Each card is locked to a single merchant, and you decide how much you want to spend and how often. And 1Password saves.

Set up AutoFill

Before you can use 1Password to fill and save your information, you’ll need to set up 1Password on your device. Then follow these steps:

1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
2. Tap Passwords > AutoFill Passwords.
3. Turn on AutoFill Passwords.
4. Select 1Password.

From now on, you’ll be able to fill and save passwords, without ever opening the 1Password app.

Tip

To stop iCloud Keychain from asking to save your passwords, deselect iCloud Keychain. Then you’ll always know passwords are saved in 1Password, without any confusion.

Fill and save passwords

To fill or save a password, visit a website in Safari or open an app, and tap a username or password field. If you have a Login saved for the website or app, you’ll see your username above the keyboard. If not, you’ll see Passwords.

To fill a Login, tap your username above the keyboard. If you have more than one Login for the website or app, tap to choose a different one.

Save a Login

If you already have a username and password for the website, tap , then tap Create Login. Enter your details, then tap Save & Fill.

If you don’t have a username and password for the website, tap , then tap Create Login. Enter a username, then tap Generate New Password to automatically create a strong password. If a website has specific password requirements, tap Show Password Recipe and adjust length, digits, and symbols. When you’re done, tap Save & Fill.

To change where Logins are saved, open 1Password, tap Settings > Vaults > All Vaults > Vault for Saving, and choose a vault.

Get help

AutoFill requires 1Password 7.2 or later.

If you can’t use Touch ID or Face ID with AutoFill, open the 1Password app and enter your Master Password to unlock it.

If you have a Login item in 1Password that doesn’t appear when you try to fill:

• in an app, tap Passwords to see all your Login items and choose the one you want to fill.
• in Safari, you may need to edit the item to make sure its website field matches the website.

If you recently changed an item on another device and the change isn’t appearing when you attempt to fill, open and unlock 1Password to sync your changes.

If you’re an iOS app developer, set up your app’s associated domains.

WPA2 is the safest form of Wi-Fi password protection

WPA2 protection is immensely safe. WPA2 relies on a user-generated password to keep strangers out of your internet, and there's currently no way for a hacker to infiltrate it remotely.

The original security protocol for Wi-Fi networks was called WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), but it had a number of serious vulnerabilities. Established in 1999, it had been cracked by 2001. It was then superseded by the first version of WPA in 2003, which was replaced by WPA2 in 2006.

If your router is using any security protocol other than WPA2, you should open the router's settings and change it to WPA2.

The most common way to locate your Wi-Fi router's security settings, which includes the WPA2 password, is by signing into your router's settings page in a web browser.

If the router's manufacturer offers a mobile app, you might be able to see the WPA2 settings there as well.

How to find your WPA2 password

1. To open the router's security settings, you'll need to know the router's IP address. This is often written on the side or bottom of the router itself, but if you can't find it there, you can look up the IP address on your computer. Check out our article on how to do just that.

2. Once you have the IP address, open any web browser. In the browser, enter the router's IP address in the address bar and press Enter or Return.

3. You'll need to log into the router's settings page using the username and password you used when you installed the router. Check the router's setup guide, or the notes you took when you reset the username and password. Many routers also have this written on the side or bottom.

4. Every router is different, but you can typically find the WPA2 settings in a section called 'wireless' or 'security.' You should see a menu in which you can select the security protocol (such as WEP, WPA, or WPA2) and the current password.

If you find that you can't log into your router, or can't find your password, try contacting the router's manufacturer or your internet service provider.
